The Grace M. Pickens Public Library is committed to providing a balanced, diverse, and high-quality collection that meets the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of our community. Materials are selected using professional library standards to serve patrons of all ages and interests.
Library materials are selected and purchased by the Library Director using established collection guidelines. Suggestions from patrons are always welcome and are carefully considered. If a requested item cannot be added to the collection, the library will make every effort to obtain it through Interlibrary Loan.
Materials are selected based on factors including:
Community needs and interests
Accuracy and reliability of information
Author, artist, or publisher reputation
Professional reviews
Popular demand
Available funding
Local interest and significance
Appropriate format (print, audiobook, DVD, digital, etc.)
The Grace M. Pickens Public Library supports the freedom to read and provides access to materials representing a variety of viewpoints. Selection of library materials does not constitute endorsement of the ideas or opinions contained within them. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for guiding their children's reading choices.
Patrons who have concerns about materials in the library's collection may complete a Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials form. Requests are reviewed according to the library's Collection Development Policy, with final decisions made by the Library Director and Board of Trustees.
The library regularly evaluates its collection to ensure materials remain useful, accurate, current, and in good condition. Worn, outdated, damaged, or little-used materials may be removed from the collection. When appropriate, withdrawn materials are offered through the library's book sale to help support future library collections and programs.
The library maintains collections for children, teens, and adults, with materials selected to meet the interests and needs of each age group. Librarians are available to help patrons find books and other materials that match their interests and reading levels.
We welcome comments and suggestions regarding our library collection.
If you would like a copy of the Collection Development Policy or wish to submit a suggestion or concern, please contact the library or request a Customer Comment Form.
Written comments submitted to the library will receive a written response within 30 days.
